The article addresses the problem of fan fiction as a source of autonomous writing practice in Russian fan communities. Resources under study include litres.ru, samlib.ru, and prodaman.ru platforms, specifically the user-acclaimed publications of “A Song of Ice and Fire” and “Harry Potter” fandoms. Fandoms are hypothesized to emerge as readers’ communities that produce apocrypha over post-modern axiology and evolve into writers’ environments that produce original authors outside the endogenous institutions of mass literature.
